Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in the treatment of emotional, nervous or physical conditions. As the word hypnotherapy might imply, there are two elements to it - hypnosis and therapy. On its own, hypnosis is very useful: it is relaxing, and therefore helps people to cope with problems such as stress and insomnia. This is especially so when clients are taught self-hypnosis. However, the real power is felt when hypnosis is used together with other therapeutic techniques, and it is these combinations that make hypnotherapy such a valuable process for helping - in such areas as those shown in the table below:

The items in the table have one thing in common: - they could all be helped if the person suffering them had more control over mind and body. This is the essence of hypnotherapy: - it helps people to gain control over their own minds and bodies; and it is fair to say that anything that can be helped by gaining more control over your mind and body can therefore be helped by hypnotherapy.
